The School Council, at Galton Valley Primary, comprises of a representative from each class from Year Two to Year six. Yearly elections take place in each class to select the representatives. The School Council then elect a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Vice Secretary, Treasurer and Vice Treasurer within the council.
Meetings take place on at least 4 Tuesdays after school every half term. They follow a regular pattern – Welcome by the Chairperson, meeting rules, minutes of the previous meeting, an agenda for discussion and AOB including Bright Ideas box from each class.

Regular fund raising events are overseen by the School Council. The School Council canvas the ideas of all of the pupils before making a decision on how to go about raising money.
Issues that arise within the school are also discussed when the School Council meet. All pupils are encouraged to let their class representatives know about any issues that they feel need investigating. The representatives also feedback to their class, after meetings, around issues raised in the meeting.
The School Council has in the past discussed with enthusiasm topics such as: school meals, attendance, parking, playground equipment.
Representatives raise issues at meetings and then are able to report back on any decisions made to their classmates. The School Council at Galton Valley Primary School is highly respected. All of the pupils recognise that they have a voice that is valued.
