Governors

Welcome to our Governors’ Section.

Please find below details of how our Governing body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of appointment for each Governor. We have also provided a Register of Governor Interests and an Annual Statement of Issues for your information.

Our Governors

Governors fulfil a strategic role in the running of the school. They support, advise and are ambassadors for the school.

Responsibilities of the Governing Body include:

  • Deciding what is taught, taking into account the National and Foundation Stage curriculum
  • Managing the budget
  • Interviewing and selecting staff
  • Setting standards of behaviour
  • Maintaining and developing the buildings and grounds
  • Fostering links with the parents and the community
  • Ensuring equal opportunities

The Governing Body, in partnership with the head and staff at the school, is the agency through which the school is accountable to the Local Authority and to parents. Working via committees Governors make collective decisions at regularly held meetings.

We currently have no vacancies for governors, but when we do, we will advertise via this website and through letters home if for a parent governor.

               Mr. K. Uddin

                                        Parent Governor

Growing up within the local area, I have been lucky to have benefited from all that the community has to offer.  Becoming a parent governor at Galton Valley was the perfect opportunity to give back a little of what I gained from a community focused on raising opportunities for its young.

With that aim, and a background in finance, I have worked with my colleagues at Galton Valley over the last ten years.  My current roles are Chair of Outcomes Committee, Head Teacher Appraisals and also Math's governor.

It is a privilege to be part of a team striving for the betterment of our children's well-being; seeing them grow and succeed in becoming all that they can be.  We encourage hard work and resilience and our pupils always rise to the challenge.  I am incredibly proud of each and every one of them.

Mr. J. Uddin

Parent Governor

My name is Jalal Uddin. I became a parent governor in2010 as I always wanted to contribute towards the development of my local community as well as being a part of shaping the future of our next generations. My two children both Jabir (8years old) and Jannah (5years old) go to GVPS- and I am really proud to be a part of their learning & development journey.

I have always been a great admirer of ‘education’. Previously, I served as a local authority governor at another school in Sandwell over the past years. Currently, I am a Governor of Sandwell College too.

Professionally, I work as a manager at Community Connect Foundation (CCF) that provides a range of services including providing education and skills development training opportunities for young people and adults. I am also a Chartered Marketer and a member of Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).

I strongly believe, these are really exciting times to be at GVPS. We, ‘the school community’ are determined not only to be outstanding in all we do, but also to develop and sustain a unique learning culture that makes being part of the school an engaging and challenging experience for all our pupils.

At GVPS, we are on a mission to create something really special – an inclusive and cooperative school with exceptional standards that is rooted in its local community.

Mrs. S. O'Boyle

Staff Governor

I have been Head Teacher of Galton Valley Primary School since 2012, and have been teaching since 1994 and a senior leader since 2005.  I have been a governor since 2005 and a governor of Galton Valley from this 2012.  This is the seventh school I have worked in across my career, but my first as Head Teacher.   I am genuinely very proud and honoured to be Head Teacher of our brilliant school with amazing children, staff, parents and governors! We have exceptional children who work hard to do their best to make progress, alongside being polite, respectful and well-behaved.  Of course, all of this happens down to the high expectations by school staff and supportive parents and families.  We have a fabulous team of staff who work tirelessly to secure the very best for our children.  It warms my heart to hear visitors comment on the friendly and warm welcome they receive when they visit our school.  Our families are wonderful to work with as they are supportive and caring, wanting their children to face any challenges with resilience in order to become independent learners of the future.

Galton Valley Primary School also sits within a great community who offer support and are proud of their local school.  We are lucky to have a steady governing body where individuals with various, relevant experience provide their support and challenge in their own free time. As a school, we are grateful for this support and challenge which is allowing us to move forward and strengthen further as a school.
