Thematic
The Galton Valley Thematic Curriculum includes Geography, History, Art and Design Technology. Our three core values of Independence, Resilience and Respect underpin our knowledge rich curriculum. We have a key focus on “Inspirational People’ throughout the curriculum to develop aspirations and to dream big!
Themes are taught termly, with all four of the subjects being taught throughout the theme, as well as developing opportunities to apply the skills and knowledge taught in all of the Core Subjects.
Teachers are encouraged to be flexible and act on current issues to ensure that learning is relevant and engaging. National and local events are planned for and any work completed out of the ‘theme’ goes in the back of the books.
Time is given to enable learning journeys to build on prior knowledge and subject specific vocabulary is embedded throughout each theme.
