School Council Mission Statement
The School Council, at Galton Valley Primary, comprises of a representative from each class from Year Two to Year Six. Each candidate prepares a speech which is then read out to their peers. Yearly elections take place in each class to select the representatives.
Once the School Council has been elected they are then responsible for electing a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Vice Secretary, Treasurer and Vice Treasurer within the council.
Meetings take place every Thursday from 2.45pm - 3.10pm. Each School Council representative has the opportunity to talk to their class so that they can feedback what has been discussed at the meetings. They also have the opportunity to ask them for their opinions, ideas or any issues they feel may need investigating.
The representatives then come to the meetings prepared with ideas they may have gathered from their peers or matters they would like to raise which they think will be of interest to the children of Galton Valley Primary School, the surrounding community or the wider world.
They have worked together to organise litter pickers around school, will raise money through the selling of Red Noses for Comic Relief and have discussed how the Game Shop equipment can be improved so that lunchtimes are safer and fun for the children.
The School Council at Galton Valley Primary School is highly respected. All of the pupils recognise that they have a voice that is valued.
The aims of the School Council are:
to be a voice for their class and the children of Galton Valley Primary School
to suggest ideas which will promote improvements throughout the school
to provide a link between the school and the local community
to support fundraising events as appropriate
